Spring and the Medicine Wheel —

Spring arrives softly at first. A subtle shift in the air. A hint of warmth in the sunlight. The quiet promise that life is stirring beneath what once looked still and lifeless. After the long stillness of winter, something within us begins to awaken, too.

In many Indigenous teachings, the Medicine Wheel offers a beautiful way of understanding the cycles of life, nature, and our own inner growth. Each direction carries wisdom, and spring is often connected to the East — the place of new beginnings, illumination, and awakening. It is where the sun rises. It is where light returns. It is where possibility lives.

Spring does not rush. It unfolds.

The Medicine Wheel reminds us that life moves in cycles, not straight lines. Just as the earth rests in winter, we too experience times of stillness, reflection, and inward turning. Winter asks us to pause, to conserve our energy, to sit with what is. And then, without force, spring invites movement again. Not sudden leaps — gentle emergence.

This is the energy of renewal.

Spring is the season of first breath, first steps, first ideas. It carries the spirit of curiosity, hope, and a fresh perspective. It invites us to see with new eyes — to notice what is growing, both around us and within us. What dreams are stirring? What part of you is ready to awaken after a period of rest? What light is beginning to rise in your life?

The East also holds the energy of clarity. Just as morning light reveals what was hidden in darkness, spring can bring awareness. Sometimes that awareness is joyful — new inspiration, renewed motivation, a sense of possibility. Sometimes it is tender — recognizing what we need to release, what no longer fits who we are becoming.

Both are part of renewal.

Nature does not question whether it is ready to bloom. It responds when the time is right. The Medicine Wheel teaches us that we, too, can trust timing. Growth is not forced. It is allowed. It is nurtured. It is honoured.

Spring asks us to begin again — not because we failed before, but because life is always offering another opening. Another chance to move toward balance. Another opportunity to align with what feels true now.

You may notice a desire to clear space — in your home, your schedule, your thoughts, your heart. This is natural. Renewal often begins with release. Just as melting snow makes room for new growth, letting go creates space for what wants to emerge.

And yet, spring energy can be tender. New shoots are delicate. Beginnings are vulnerable. The Medicine Wheel reminds us that early growth needs care, patience, and gentleness. We do not need to rush into full bloom. We simply need to honour what is awakening.

You might ask yourself:

What is beginning within me? What light am I being invited to follow? What would it feel like to start fresh — even in one small way?

Spring is not just something happening outside your window. It is something that can happen inside your spirit.

As we move through this season, may we walk gently with the energy of the East — with openness, curiosity, and trust. May we allow ourselves to begin again without pressure, without comparison, without expectation. Simply beginning… because life is moving forward, and we are part of that sacred rhythm.

If you feel uncertain, tender, or quietly hopeful — you are in the right place. That is the feeling of new life stirring. That is the wisdom of spring. That is the turning of the wheel.

Take a moment today to step outside, feel the air, notice the light, and listen inward. Something within you is waking up. Let it.

And if you feel called to explore what is emerging in your life — to reflect, reset, or gently realign — I invite you to reach out. Sometimes growth simply needs a little space, support, and witnessing to unfold.

Spring is here. A new cycle has begun. What are you feeling drawn to plant this Spring for your own growth ? I would like to hear what you may wish to share; it helps all of us.

Mary
